Paul Diffley is a documentary filmmaker and cameraman based in Edinburgh, Scotland. His work is rooted in long-term access, trust, and lived experience, often in environments where judgement, relationships, and responsibility matter as much as technical skill.
He has spent over two decades working across outdoor and expedition environments, intimate observational documentaries, and sensitive real-world stories. This experience has shaped a practice grounded in careful observation, accuracy, and respect for the people and contexts at the heart of the work.
Paul approaches documentary filmmaking as a creative and poetic form. He works across image, sound, rhythm and structure to shape films that do more than record events, creating space for emotional resonance and reflection. His films balance factual rigour with atmosphere and tone, using the full language of cinema to allow stories to be felt as well as understood.
Alongside his own long-form documentary projects, Paul works as a freelance cameraman, editor, and self-shooting director on broadcast and commissioned work.
